This Pennywise Halloween Makeup Tutorial Is So Easy And Freaky AF

X

Let's face it - nobody really has enough time and energy to go all out for Halloween year after year. If you've left your costume till the last minute (as per usual), then we just might have the perfect look that's pretty simple, will scare the sh*t out of everyone, and mostly requires things you've probably got lying around at home.

With the remake of Stephen King's It coming out this year, our ultimate DIY Pennywise costume was made for all of us who want to spend half an hour getting ready for fright night, tops. We teamed up with Illamasqua's MUA Tonee Robeiro to create this ultra-realistic, but do-able look; just try and stay away from anyone who might have a clown phobia...

The Pennywise Eyebrows

Pennywise has the worst 00s brows ever, so you've got to do away with your own to recreate his. Before applying any base, use a regular glue stick to glue the brow hairs down, then brush them upwards using a spoolie brush. Wipe away any glue on the skin around the eyebrows, allow to dry, then press on a pale eyeshadow - we used Illamasqua's eyeshadow in Stealth (£17, lookfantastic.com). Pat it generously over the glue, then press a concealer like Illamasqua's Skin Base Lift (£20, lookfantastic.com) to match your skin tone over the top.

After your base is done, it'll be time to draw in those eyebrows. Take a dark grey eyeshadow like Illamasqua's in Incubus (£17, selfridges.com) and a super thin angled brush to draw them up and outwards in a single line.

The Pennywise Base

You're going to have to completely white out your face. We used Illamasqua's Skin Base Foundation in 01 (£33, beautybay.com) all over, applying it in a stippling motion until all the streaks were gone, setting it with a dense white powder like the Illamasqua powder blush in Intrique (£23, beautybay.com).

The Pennywise Eyes

The eyes are probably the hardest part of this look, but they're still pretty easy. Dip an eyeshadow brush in a black gel eyeliner like Illamasqua's in Infinity (£21, lookfantastic.com) and blend it all over the upper and lower eyelids. Blend an orange eyeshadow where the black meets the white - we used Illamasqua's one in Apex. Line your waterline with a red lip liner like Illamasqua's Creative (£16, lookfantastic.com) for some very creepy red-rimmed eyes.

Use that same red lip liner to draw Pennywise's signature curvy lines across your cheeks and brows, ending at the lips where you want to totally overline them. Then hollow out your cheekbones using that same grey eyeshadow from earlier, and you're almost completely transformed.

The Pennywise Hair

Pennywise's widow's peak hairline starts several inches further back than ours, so if you're not committed enough to break out the bald cap (or razor), just pin your hair into three rolls and spray a decent amount of orange or red hair spray over the top - we used Claire's Bright Orange Hair Colour Spray (£2.80, claires.com)

The Pennywise Costume

After hair and makeup, either go all out and get a proper clown's ruffle collar, white gloves and a red balloon - or just put on a white shirt backwards like we did. Is that last minute perfection, or what?!
