It was her relationship with Justin Bieber that first propelled Hailey Baldwin properly into the limelight, but a couple of years – and 10.7 million Instagram followers – later and this girl is at the top of her game. Part of the new model elite, alongside the likes of Kendall, Gigi and Bella, the 20-year-old has walked the runway for Topshop, Julian Macdonald and Tommy Hilfiger. She's now also curated the JD Sports x Adidas ‘Streets of EQT’ collection.
I met her backstage at London Fashion Week ahead of the collection's secret, off-schedule show where she was busy running around adjusting the model’s outfits. It’s rare for a celebrity to pay this much interest to a project, let alone get on her hands and knees to adjust even the model’s hem lengths.

Check two-pieces usually conjure up visions of bossy bankers who have a skant regard for style. But, on Hailey Baldwin, we don’t find an ill-fitting suit, instead, it’s a classy check double-breasted jacket left open and, for a racy twist, a late nineties mini. That’s what we like: a little bit of class with a whole lot of sass. This girl means B-U-S-I-N-E-S-S!
How to put the lux into sport lux
The term sport lux is passed around a lot with minimal style success. Wearing a tracksuit a-la Sporty Spice in the 90’s doesn’t constitute lux - it’s just a throwback. Enter Hailey with a textbook example of how to tackle the perennial trend: wear one's hoodie under a two-piece suit and flash the abs for extra measure.
