From seriously sexy looks to incredible new features, here’s Trusted Reviews' Jamie Laird on why you might want to consider ditching the iPhone and buying a Samsung Galaxy S8 this year.

Samsung has revealed the Galaxy S8 and big sibling the Galaxy S8+, which represent its 2017 flagship phones and two of the most eagerly anticipated Android handsets of 2017.

Here are 4 reasons why you might want to get excited.

The Galaxy S8 – the most stylish phone around?

Premium design is probably the S8’s biggest selling point – there isn’t really a device that looks better right now. Not only is it exceptionally thin and light, but its curved back fits perfectly in the palm and it’s water and dust-resistant to a military-grade standard, making it perfect for nights out on the town and festival season.

It’s also available in a decent array of colour options, namely a dark black, bright silver and blue-ish tinged grey, meaning you can pick the perfect model to match your style.

But don’t just take our word for it – here’s what TrustedReviews’ expert Mobile Editor, Max Parker, wrote in his Galaxy S8 preview, having spent plenty of hands-on time with the S8. Alternatively, head over to TrustedReviews for a detailed
early Galaxy S8 review.

“From the moment I picked up the S8 – and its larger, 6.2-inch sibling the Galaxy S8+ – I realised it was even more special than I expected. On this evidence, Samsung has surpassed anything we've seen before.

“It’s a much subtler curve than on the Galaxy S7 Edge, just like on the Note 7, and that makes it a lot easier to use.

"Nothing comes close to the Galaxy S8. It's the best-looking phone I've ever seen.”

All the apps you need

Moving on, and the Galaxy S8 benefits from one of the richest selection of apps around. Its Google-designed Android operating system is the most popular in the world, so all of your favourites are there, from Instagram and Snapchat to Tinder, Facebook and Spotify.

Not only that, but the Galaxy S8 features ‘Bixby’, Samsung’s cutely named AI (artificial intelligence) helper, which is designed to rival the iPhone’s own assistant, Siri.

Bixby lets you complete a range of tasks without so much as lifting a finger, so whether it’s finding out the latest weather forecast, getting directions, or pinpointing a recipe, you can enjoy a hands-free phone experience with the new device.

A camera without compromise?

The Galaxy S8 comes with a 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front ‘selfie’ cam, both of which should fill your needs. Smartphone camera tech has come on leaps and bounds in recent years, and in 2017, your mobile can easily act as a replacement for a dedicated snapper.

The Galaxy S8’s camera is likely to emerge as one of the very best around and comes complete with slow-mo video capture and 4K recording, both of which will look awesome on the phone’s super-sharp screen.

Plus, Samsung offers a range of its own filters to complement apps like Instagram, so you’ll be able to capture the mood perfectly, wherever you are.

Should I be hyped?

In a word, yes.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are now the phones to beat in 2017. If you’re in need of a new mobile, there’s every reason to consider buying one, instead of waiting six months for the next iPhone to come out.

The only potential sticking point is price. As they represent the best of the best, the S8 and S8+ don’t come cheap, with the Galaxy S8 retailing at £689 and the Galaxy S8+ starting from £779. But, for your money, you’re in for one of the best – and best looking – smartphone experiences around.

Both handsets will be widely available in the UK and US from major high street retailers and mobile networks.
