Elle Fanning swaps acting for the runway and the FROW lost it...
It really doesn't get more chic than Paris Fashion Week. Yes NYC is all about scale, London prides itself on creativity and Milan is just plain well dressed but Paris is fashion's real epicentre. Hence why the FROW at Paris Fashion Week tends to be the greatest of all.
Of course Mrs Prada left the best Paris Fashion Week moment to last with Elle Fanning, Miu Miu's face, swapping the FROW for the runway. With a beehive with more gravity defying qualities than Amy Winehouse's the actress showcased Miu Miu's retrograde take on sixties style, cat flick and all. As Elle opened the show the front row was in raptures with Marc Jacobs and Gwendoline Christie leading the enthusiastic applause. Watch out Kaia babes, there is a new runway star in town!
Closing what feels like a century of fashion shows was Louis Vuitton with perhaps the most glittering of front rows to date. Emma Stone fresh from the Oscars took her place alongside Michelle Williams, Jaden Pinkett-Smith and bride to be, Sophie Turner.
Elsewhere, trust Vivienne Westwood to serve up a FROW to actually talk about, too. Front rows are usually a white wash of rather beige personalities who have already appeared at 600 shows and rarely very racially diverse but Vivienne is hardly a fan of the status quo. Gathering for another Westwood collection that mixed together social and political statements with a side helping of bondage go-go dancers were FROWERs of the moment, Selah Marley and Justine Skye.
Alongside them appeared the likes of Luka Sabbat who describes himself as a stylist, entrepreneur and champion (we can't argue with that), Rose McGowan who has become a calling card for the Time's Up movement, Snopp Dog's son, Cordell Broadus (who has actually crafted a career for himself unlike many 'children of') and Die Antwoord who have taken the tried and tested format of a male and female duo to new heights with their hip hop sound. Moreover the FROW symbolised the messaging of the brand perfectly - another rare feet - by showcasing talent that represented Vivienne Westwood's unapologetic creativity. There wasn't cardboard cutout FROWer in sight - refreshing AF!
However despite Paris fashion week being the chicest of all (it's in France, it goes with the territory) that hasn't stopped the FROW delving into the rails of the tested high street favorite, H&M. For the brand's see now buy now Asian infused show the likes of Joan Smalls and Winnie Harlow slipped into their high street finest and took their positions on the floor - in keeping with Japanese tradition. We will race you for Winnie's winter warmer, that's for sure.
Naturally nothing is quite as quintessentially French as Dior and with that in mind Christian Dior Artistic Director Maria Grazia welcomed the greatest of guests to her usual venue, Musée Rodin. Gracing a show space emblazoned with feminist messaging Cara Delevingne traded in the runway for a front row seat and Jorja Smith made her FROW debut.
Nothing is as iconic as the Eiffel Tower either, so for another season Saint Lauren commandeered the landmark for their after hours show to showcase the brands latest impression of going out OUT dressing. Turning up for the most stylish sight seeing tour were Kate Moss and Rosie Huntington Whiteley who both showed British gals can do French Chic too.
Scroll down to see all the celebrities sitting front row at autumn/winter 2018 Paris Fashion Week for the full round up. Until next season farewell FROWers...
