Winter Blues? We’ve Found the Cosiest Place For You To Hibernate

Adam Lynk

Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, the Lygon Arms is definitely the cosiest place you could hope to stay this winter. The multi-million pound refurbishment of the historic Coaching Inn insures the hotel and spa is jam-packed with history while still oh-so glamorous.

The redesign by Anita Rosato is a careful balance of celebrating the past but with modern touches that mean you'll want for nothing. And, behind each nook and cranny of the impressive 16th Century architecture lies another cosy corner to sit and relax.

Every room tells a story at this iconic hotel, with a rich tapestry of notable guests, including Oliver Cromwell, who has a room dedicated to him, and King Charles I, who would gather with his supporters under roof of the Lygon Arms during the Civil War. Guests are encouraged to engage with the rich heritage of the Cotswolds, with a stack of Hunter wellington boots ready for you to explore the surrounding areas and, in keeping with the quaint appeal, the kind and helpful staff are always on hand in tweed flat caps and leather boots.

Hungry?

With all this mention of royalty it's only fair that you eat like a king too! There are two options available: firstly, the Mediterranean-inspired Lygon Wine Bar, which is host to an array of delicious Italian-style dishes complemented by a whole catalogue of fantastic European wines. My tip: You HAVE to get a cheese board. I don’t often say this, but there was almost too much cheese.

The other option is the Lygon Bar and Grill, which looks just as good as it tastes. Indulge in locally sourced hearty meals by the open fire while gazing at a collection of beautiful portraits collected over hundreds of years.

A little thirsty after dinner?

Find yourself a cosy little corner and order yourself a cocktail from the bar. You somehow end up feeling like you’re at the coolest bar in London and as homely as your mum’s sofa, the extensive cocktail menu has everything you could ever dream of. Watch your drink being concocted behind the atmospheric bar and flavoured from a perfume bottle (You MUST try the Lavender Negroni, I insist).

Time for bed?

The Lygon Arms has 86 rooms, including three luxury suites and six Courtyard Suites that have their own private garden, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee. Every room has been individually designed and has pretty much every amenity you could think off. You can order yourself a delicious room service breakfast, book a luxurious spa treatment (which we’ll get to later) or get the low down on what’s happening in the area from the convenient touch of a tablet. Make the most of the complimentary Floris toiletries and afterwards cosy up in a fluffy robe and slippers and let all your troubles float away.

Not relaxed enough yet?

The Lygon Spa is host to a range of treatments that are sure to make you say ‘aaah’. A haven of peace of tranquility, the on-site spa will leave you refreshed and rejuvenated. If you really want to treat yourself, book yourself in for a full body massage and feel truly spoilt. After your treatment, the kind and helpful spa technicians will also give you a card with every product they have used and tips to keep you feeling revitalised.
