Two days into New York Fashion Week, I broke my nail. I don’t mean chipped. I mean properly bent backwards during an awkward suitcase manoeuvre in which I was quite frankly lucky not to have lost the entire nail itself. Desperate for some nail TLC, I googled ‘best manicures NYC’ and was inundated with places - most of them, after more careful googling, transpired to be below par.
Step in my beauty editor and blogger pals, who quickly flooded my inbox with meccas for manis, places for pedicures, and fabulous facialists - and a bunch of shops that sold stuff I would need to keep my skin/hair/nails in tip-top condition during my time out here. I dashed around the city and found these to be the most brilliant RN:
Where: The Glossier Showroom
Why: Because no beauty emporium is hotter at the moment. Glossier is a veritable hub of glossy, preened New Yorkers, who pile in for the sleek packaging (so chic), and fuss-free formulas contained within.
What To Get When You’re There: Cloud Paint is an irresistible wash of sheer cheek colour, while Balmdotcom is a handy multitasking balm that is non-greasy.

Where: PaintBox
Why: Nowhere - I repeat - nowhere I’ve ever been has offered as comprehensive and brilliant a range of manicures as this place. Want a little silver foil in the outer corner of your nail? Done. A glitter tip that shimmers in the sun? Sorted. Oh - and they serve champers while you’re in there. Need I say more?
What To Get When You’re There: Absolutely go for something that requires their incredible skill, preferably featuring foil.
Where: The Mask Bar New York
Why: Shelves and shelves of Korean masks span the length of this shop, and New Yorkers and tourists alike have been flocking to it to grab a speedy fix to erase signs of having not slept in the city that famously doesn’t really promote the 8 hours a night thing.
What To Get When You’re There: The hair masks - new, exciting, effective. Some of them warm up and steam to push moisture deeply into the shaft of your hair, others just surround your hair in keratin or oils. Either way, you’ll end up with a healthier head of hair - and possibly a fun Insta post to boot.
So there you have it, the most fabulous beauty spots in NYC. I'm not saying you should make a trip to the Big Apple especially, but it wouldn't be the worst idea...
