Coach

Selena Gomez can’t keep her her hands off her Coach bags in the new fall campaign shoot for the American brand. Having been announced as the new face of the brand back in December last year, the 24 year-old singer has been building quite the capsule Coach wardrobe ever since.

Having tackled the T-Rex ‘Rexy’ jumper that’s now synonymous with the brand and accessorised many a look with every Coach bag on the market, Selena cemented her brand obsession by wearing a custom Coach gown at the Met Gala. Her split hem dress with delicate floral detailing was only upstaged by a PDA with her boyfriend, The Weekend.

Speaking to our Joshington Hosts backstage at the Coach Autumn/Winter 2017 in New York, the brand’s creative director, Stuart Vevers was having a real fan girl moment over Gomez, "she’s very confident, she’s bold, she puts together an amazing outfit and her look is just so strong!" If the backstage photos from the campaign shoot are anything to go by the pair have cemented a real friendship, too. Here Selena talks about her relationship with the brand, her style and becoming a designer herself…

What do you love about being a Coach girl?

Coach made me feel like family from day one. Having the opportunity to grow creatively by working on a design collaboration and reaching so many girls through the Coach Foundation is important to me and I love that Coach is supportive.

What pieces from the Pre-Fall and/or fall collection are you excited to incorporate into your wardrobe?

My favourite fall piece is a cropped shearling jacket, with embroidery, that will look cute dressed down with a pair of vintage jeans. The embroidered dress I am wearing in the Swagger campaign image is so fun too. I love the bow detailing!

Coach

How do you describe your style? What is your daily uniform?

My style has definitely evolved over the years but remaining classic at the same time. As far as my daily look it depends on my mood that day. I love a great pair of jeans and boots or sometimes I want to have a bit more fun with my look.

What was your favourite part of shooting the campaign?

Seeing Creative Director Stuart Vevers’ vision for the season come full circle was very special. From I attending the show during NYFW to actually shooting the campaign overlooking NYC- it was all pretty surreal.

What was the vibe like on set?

Steven Meisel is a legend so it was an honour to work with him for the first time. I’d say the vibe was very laid back.

What music did you like to listen to onset?

I listen to everything so the music was definitely all over the place: pop, jazz, hip-hop, classic rock. I think we played everything!

Coach

You share a lot of common values with the brand- were these shared beliefs and goals about the importance of giving back, the desire to help mentor and empower young women, key to building a partnership?

That is what instantly drew me to working with Coach after we had our initial meeting. Earlier this year we spent the day visiting schools with the Step Up organisation, which Victor works very closely with. Days like that is why I love my job.
