Julie & Julia: A feel good food movie

Julie & Julia

Meryl Streep and Amy Adams have served up a feel-good, appetizing rom-com in Julie & Julia. Directed and written by Nora Ephron, the screenwriter of our all time favourite boy-meets-girl movie When Harry Met Sally, gives us all we need to shed those credit crunch blues with a side order of motivation in this new movie.

Set both in post-war Paris and post 9/11 New York, the storyline follows the lives of two inspiring women. Julia Child played by Meryl Sreep is the first American woman to study at the renowned Cordon Bleu cookery and bring authentic French cuisine to 1950s middle class America.

Julie Powells played by Amy Adams is a government secretary who, to spice up her life, decides to cook her way through Child's iconic cookbook in the space of one year, while blogging about the experience.

Doe-eyed Adams gives a strong performance as the amicable Powells, but (not surprisingly) Streep's already Oscar-buzzed portrayal of Child steals the show.

Whether you are in the mood for something inspiring, heart-warming or simply filling, Julie & Julia ticks all the boxes and shouldn't be missed.
