Marchesa
It's really no wonder that Marchesa is the go-to label for a clutch of romance-loving A-listers including Anne Hathaway, Kate Beckinsale and Jennifer Lopez. With ruffles, flower details and plenty of old-fashioned romance this collection is sure to appear on an awards red carpet in the very near future. Designer Georgina Chapman cited Spanish courtesan Lola Montez as her inspiration so there were rich reds, ruffles and frocks with a little flamenco about them.

Oscar de la Renta
'O' is for Oscar and for opulent. The Oscar de la Renta show was a feast of sumptuous fabrics and attention-grabbing metallics, brocade and liquid silks. The colour palette ranged from cherry-red to forest-green to gold and deepest purple and as ever the evening gowns were the scene stealers here. Favourites included this pale-gold embellished number and a sculptural brocade gown modelled by Karen Elson.

Calvin Klein
Francisco Costa went back to the early 90s for his A/W Calvin Klein collection. The show was ultra-minimal in bright white, glossy black and muted silver and long, lean lines. The show featured music and a sculptural light installation created by Berlin-based Alva Noto and Carsten NIcolai. 90s supermodels Stella Tennant, Kristen McMenamy. Kirsty Hume and Tanga Moreau who all share a history of starring in past Calvin Klein advertising campaigns walked the runway, while Kate Bosworth, Isabelle Lucas and Helena Christensen sat front row.
