After much speculation, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced that they are engaged to be married. Clarence House broke the news this morning and Markle is set to become ‘Her Royal Highness’ following the marriage.
The statement outlined that the couple have been dating since the summer of 2016 after being introduced by mutual friend Markus Anderson at the members club, Soho House in Central London. The proposal took place in London, earlier this month.
Clarence House said further details about the couple's wedding will be announced in due course, adding: "Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family.”
It continued to say, ”Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle's parents."
An announcement on their royal titles will be made prior to their wedding, once The Queen has made a decision. This follows the typical royal protocol surrounding titles.
In the statement by Clarence House it was also confirmed that the couple will become neighbours to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge by moving into Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
The pair went public with their relationship late in October 2016 when Prince Harry sensationally made a statement, issued by Kensington Palace, calling out the media for the negative treatment of his girlfriend.
Naturally, given Prince Harry’s stature within the royal family rumours of another Royal Wedding have swirled ever since. The rumour mill did indeed go into over drive after Meghan seemed to be turning her back on her previous life in favour of life as a prospective Princess. Meghan shut down her lifestyle website, The Tig, skipped off on a three-week holiday to Jamaica and then announced she was leaving the TV show Suits after seven seasons.
Following her exit from Suits, the 36-year-old actress was seen to move out of her Toronto apartment where she resided with her two dogs for four years. Paparazzi shots of Meghan undertaking errands in London seemed to show that the engagement was indeed imminent.
Fueling the rumours further, earlier this year Meghan was placed on the cover of Vanity Fair and in the accompanying interview she exclaimed that herself and Harry are, “two people who are really happy and in love.”
“I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope that people understand that this is our time”. She continued: “This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
You and us both, Meghan! We also love a royal bride, a big designer wedding dress and another trip up the Abbey aisle. We cannot wait… congratulations to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle!
