Ed Westwick and Gemma Arterton star in Wuthering Heights

It's a casting decision made in heaven. Gossip Girl's resident baddy, Chuck Bass aka Ed Westwick, is to play the brooding Heathcliff in a film adaptation of Wuthering Heights with Gemma Arterton starring as Cathy.

The news was broken at the Cannes Film festival where movie deals are being made as Hollywood heavyweights discuss their next blockbusters. Ed will be starring opposite Gemma Arterton who will play his foster sister Cathy. Gemma's biggest role thus far has been as Bond girl Strawberry Fields in James Bond Quantum of Solace. The part of Cathy was originally offered to Natalie Portman who had to pull out due to other commitments. Sienna Miller and Abbie Cornish were both possible choices and Lindsay Lohan made a plea for the part but in the end it's the lucky Gemma who will be starring opposite heartthrob Westwick.

We loved Gemma as Tess in Tess of the D'Urbervilles, so are looking forward to seeing her do period drama again. Check back for more Cannes news as it happens!
