Cult handbag range alert!
Tuesday 15 September, 2009
Move over, snakeskin – the Icelandic label we’re lusting after makes accessories on a whole different scale…
We’re all about a cult handbag here at InStyle towers – and so much the better if we can cram a little quirk into our clutch. Step forward Icelandic label Unnurwear, by designer Unnur Fridriksdottir.
In Icelandic, Unnur means “the waves of the ocean” – apt, since Unnurwear’s speciality is handbags made from “sea leather”… that’s fash-speak for fish.
(Yes, you read that correctly.)
"Sea leather" smells and wears just like real leather; and lets those of you with a fear of snakes enjoy the on-trend and oh-so-sexy snakeskin look.
The new a/w 2009 collection of grown-up bags and accessories, in rich jewel and gold hues, is made from farm-grown Icelandic salmon and farm-grown African perch… it sounds fishy, but it looks gorgeous.
