Our fashion features editor Hannah Rochell has literally been shopping all week…
When I go shopping in actual shops, I tend to spend my time picking up items, wandering around with them for a bit, putting some back, and then buying what’s left in my hands without even trying it on. It’s fair to say it’s not my favourite pastime. So online shopping suits me very well indeed, and that’s where I tend to buy most of my clothes. The websites that have got it right as far as I’m concerned are the ones that are easy to search around where I can find the stuff I really like without having to trawl through the stuff I don’t (after all, that’s the part I don’t like about real life shopping). With Zara, for example, I just head to the ‘new in’ section so that there’s less to take in. I love Finery London and ShoeScribe for their smaller selections and tight edits of product. And ASOS is great when you have something very specific in mind – like a denim pinafore dress - because you can usually find it within seconds thanks to all the different filters.

My new favourite online store though, is Zalando. (Where did that come from?! I know, I wasn’t expecting it either.) Earlier this year I bagged myself some amazing adidas Gazelles in pale grey, a colour that was exclusive to Zalando, and BOOM it was on my radar. Then, earlier this week, it launched the Tommy X Gigi collection, available exclusively at Zalando until September 9th. Plus there’s something really exciting in the pipeline that I can’t even tell you about yet, but you’re going to love it, believe me.
So I hopped online again this week to have another browse and it turns out there are many MANY more reasons to have a look yourself. Here’s why…
The 90s sportswear kid in you needs to see this
The classic sports brands on here are INSANE. Fila, Diadora, Champion and Ellesse are all really well stocked. They took me back to my days doing the running man in under 18s Patsy’s. Which brings me to…

All the adidas Originals you could ever need
Remember those adidas Gazelles I mentioned? It doesn’t stop there. As well as some more amazing colourways of this year’s favourite trainer (including loads of gum soles and an neon yellow suede #swoon), there’s a red tracksuit to die for and some culottes (yes, adidas CULOTTES!) that have me reaching for my credit card.
The look of the week edits
Zalando has masses of stock, so if you’re just looking to browse and want a more refined edit, head to the look of the week pages under ‘inspiration’. There you’ll find collections broken down into trends, which is a bit easier to digest if you’re after a casual shop. It's also a great way to discover the more niche brands that you wouldn't think to look for.
All the denim choices
There are more jeans available than you could possibly imagine, from well-known brands like Levi’s and Wrangler, to more niche ones like Wood Wood and Won Hundred and premiums like J Brand. I love that you can search by ‘trouser rise’ (very important!). There is also a jeans guide that amongst other things has a quiz to help you find the style that suits you best. Handy.
Wood Wood jeans, £129.99, zalando.co.uk
The Scandi factor
All the best Scandi cool brands are well represented here: By Malene Birger, Filippa K, DAY and Ilse Jacobsen to name but a few. We originally wrote that the Zalando web developers should include a ‘Scandi’ search option (as a matter of fashion urgency), and guess what? They listened to us! You can now filter Zalando by Scandi here. Thanks, Zalando!

A new place to shop for lingerie
Pretty much all the styles you could ever need (sporty, lacy and everything in-between). A quick look at the filters tells me you can search up to cup size H and there is even loads of choice in my elusive bra size (28E. I don’t know why I told you that but there you go).
We love the new campaign
Encompassing the enormous choice at Zalando, the faces of the new campaign are five very distinctive women including artist and model Phoebe Collings-James and musician and wife of Mark Ronson, Josephine de la Baume. And we want to look like all of them.
And those are just my reasons! Head over and have a look for yourself. I will update you with that exciting news as soon as I am allowed to tell you!
