Roksanda Ilincic Spring Summer 2012
Roksanda Ilincic has been rocking the red carpets lately, so it was only natural to find celebrities like Poppy Delevigne dotted on the front rows of her supremely elegant show in Pall Mall, London.
Set to sweeping piano music, the show proved once again that Roksanda is both a masterful architect but also a girl’s girl – there are no harsh lines here.
The first portion of the spring/summer collection featured a voluminous dress in the colour of the season, mustard, drawn in at the waist with a fluorescent orange knotted rope belt. Next came the same colour-way with a paper bag-waist skirt and orange piping along the seams.
Peplums were rife at the New York shows and Roksanda’s collection showcased them in exaggerated sizes for an ultra-feminine effect. Puffs began at the elbows of simple scoop-neck tops and flared out to the wrists. Carrying on with the volume theme, skirts were cinched tightly at the waist and flared to bubble proportions until they reached their mid-calf hems.
When they weren’t flared, dresses in aquamarine and ochre were long and kaftan-like with Seventies-esque geometric prints. Later, abstract navy checks were blown-up and emblazoned on a silk bomber jacket and white maxidress.
Roksanda’s stylish accents were charming and quirky, from chunky knitted caps (perhaps a bit hot in summer!) to her initials blind-embossed on boxy blouses in fuchsia and white.
Needless to say, we were all swooning as the raven-haired designer took her final bow.
