Ready to ditch those dark washes for a white jean? Stylist and TV presenter Antonia O'Brien shows how to make them look cool
1) Head-to-toe white
The all-white trend started on the catwalk at Celine and Alexander Wang is now filtering into our own wardrobes (with a little help from the street style bloggers.) This trend works across all shapes from skinny to boyfriend, cropped and flared so you can stay true to the cut of jeans you're most comfortable with.
Remember to balance out your silhouette to prevent the all-white look going too Eighties Hamptons. If you choose a skinny denim style wear it with a low-scoop tee or loose-fitting shirt. For flares / boyfriend fits keep your top-half in proportion to avoid looking swamped.
Remember - the devil is in the detail so mix and match different textures and finishes for a high-end look.
2) Shirting up
There is something effortlessly sexy about teaming a pair of white jeans with an oversized shirt. You can unbutton it to the breastbone to show off your décolletage, roll up the sleeves to highlight the slim of your wrist and tuck into the belt to define your frame.
Shirts and blouses are my everyday go-to, from classic white to silky prints and pocketed khaki. Mix denim blue and white for an instantly fresh, classic look.
3) Adding stripes and prints
Every wardrobe has at least one Breton tee, a basic made iconic by everyone from from Brigitte Bardot to Kate Moss (the ultimate St Tropez/ Cannes off-duty uniform.) Stripey tees and Oxford shirts are the perfect partner to white denim for a clean and modern nautical look.
You can also use your white jeans to anchor bold colours and prints - don’t be shy with the florals, boyish plaids or fruit embellished pieces. However, if the idea of stripes and prints gives you sartorial anxiety, find safety in neutrals. Camel, grey, gunmetal and navy tones go beautifully with a white jean.
