5 Ways To Tackle The Roll Neck Jumper Trend

5 Ways To Tackle The Roll Neck Jumper Trend

Roll necks are this season’s biggest knitwear trend, but they can be tricky to style. We've rounded up our favourite looks from fashion week to inspire your winter wardrobe...

Roll necks are one of those pieces that either conjure up images of Beatnik cool, or remind you of a 10-year-old in bunches and a pinafore. Whichever side of the fence you sit on, this season there's no two ways about it: the high neck jumper is the biggest knitwear trend around.

Seen everywhere at AW14 fashion month, from Alexander Wang - where there was a clear après or during-ski vibe - to cropped and party-ready at Chanel.

If the alpine or disco knit separates don’t fit neatly into your winter wardrobe, channel one of the biggest AW14 trends, which is perfectly tailored to roll neck wear: Sixties. Along with those oh-so flattering A-line skirts and pointed flats, the roll neck sits nicely. Louis Vuitton teamed his roll necks with tank tops for the ultimate in retro cool.

If you’re less about the throwback-inspired looks, a chunky roll neck can be the perfect way to bring your midi skirt and ankle boots combos (a winter work go-to) up to AW14.

We’ve rounded up the celebs and street style stars who’ve been wearing the trend well. From casual to smart, get your roll neck inspiration here...

A tucked-in or cropped roll neck teamed with a midi skirt or high-waisted trouser is perfect for work - especially if you don't want your waist to be covered with swathes of chunky knitwear.

Not only do we love Olivia Palermo's matchy matchy roll neck and skirt as a day-to-night look, but the way she's layered a chunky necklace for a little extra glamour is very nice indeed.

Does Giovanna Battaglia ever get it wrong? No, is the answer. She's nailed pretty much all of AW14's hottest trends with this look; roll neck, cape, pointed flats, mini bag. Her roll neck and jean combo is totally wearable, and the accessories give it a new season twist. Layer with a coat if you get too chilly.

Thought roll necks were to be worn casual? Think again. Nicole Richie styled hers with a matching blue suit and looked oh-so fab.

Has your man friend got a roll neck? Grab that and throw it over jeans, a mini skirt or leather trousers for a comfortable and casual winter look. Or just buy your own oversized, chunky style - he's never going to get his back otherwise.
