The nation’s love-in with the Royal Family and what they choose to wear to family weddings, christenings, state occasions and international tours is everyone’s favourite topic of conversation.

Whether it’s The Duchess of Cambridge stepping out in high-street steals or The Queen wowing crowds in bright colours, which she often wears head-to-toe so that she can be seen from far away – the Royal Family provide some of the most spectacular sartorial inspo.

As part of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday celebrations this summer, don’t miss the exhibition Fashioning a Reign: 90 Years of Style from The Queen’s Wardrobe, hosted at the Summer Opening of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace. Promising a unique journey through a collection of the most iconic outfits she’s worn to date, you’ll be able to swoon over some of the most magnificent and memorable attire that chart key events in The Queen’s life.

Her famous ivory silk wedding dress, decorated with crystals and 10,000 seed pearls complete with a 4.6m star-patterned train, and her opulent Coronation dress, both designed by British couturier Sir Norman Hartnell, will be on display together for the first time. It’s a rare opportunity to get up close to these treasured designer pieces worn by The Queen and a royal lesson in style.

The Queen has always been a staunch supporter of British fashion, and the exhibition is packed with the amazing outfits she’s worn on major state occasions both at home and around the world. As well as Norman Hartnell, look out for standout pieces by renowned designers Sir Hardy Amies and Ian Thomas.

In addition to Buckingham Palace, Fashioning a Reign includes two other exhibitions of Her Majesty’s attire. Head for the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh (until 16 October) and to Windsor Castle (17 September to 8 January), all showing a total of around 150 outfits.

As far as birthday celebrations go, you won't come across one more fabulously fashionable than this!
