The easy way to refresh your wardrobe
It's been a great season for trend-spotting this fashion month. From those cold shoulder bomber jackets to ankle buckles, just to name a few. But we couldn’t help but notice that one of the coolest street-styler must-try trends may be the cheapest styling trick in history: it’s under a tenner - £4 from Asos, actually.
Believe it or not, it’s a fishnet sock. Unless you’ve previously dressed up for fancy dress Moulin Rouge-style, you’ve probably never dreamt of wearing a pair. But this barely-there sock can instantly update even your oldest pair of jeans for a style-savvy spin.
We first caught a glimpse of the fishnet - or fancy tight - making a come back on the Autumn Winter '16 runways, from the likes of Maison Margiela and Proenza Schouler, who took them to the next level with giant holes that were visible with huge cut-outs all over the dresses. But how do you wear these for everyday life?
If you’re anything like me, trying to manage a pair of huge gaping tights under jeans can be tricky. Which is why we’re so into the socks. Oh, and just in case you were wondering, we definitely want to see the black elastic seam that sits on your leg.
So what do you wear them with and not look like a 90’s punk try-hard or a Kat Slater on a hen night? The coolest option is a straight leg jean and backless slider or loafer. Pinterest has gone crazy with the Gucci loafer and fishnet combos - and we love it. They’re also super cute pulled just over an ankle boot so they peep out, if you’re feeling brave enough to go for the bare leg.
If you fancy an evening update for your heels then, again, these are perfect. Opt for the wide circular hole versions though as they are just a little more feminine when paired with a chunky block heel or mule.
So where to buy? Click through the gallery for some options to instantly shop right now for both the tighter budget and if you fancy something more luxe. And don’t think you have to stick to black, with so many colour options out there, get a few and mix it up. My favourites right now are the very pale pink nudish wide fishnets; subtle and elegant they’ll look super chic and understated with almost anything.
