Street style is one of the best things about New York Fashion Week — see our favourite looks here
With plummenting temperatures and snow covered footpaths, when it comes to saratorial challenges, New York Fashion Week certainly knows how to deliver. However, don't think severe weather warnings get in the way of the street style stars. When it comes to sub-zero temperatures, the hardcore pack are well, errr, hardy.
Surprisingly, this season some of their looks were pretty practical with puffa jackets almost mandatory. Adding volume to any look, most were styled off the shoulder or gripped around the waist, taking away a little from their warming properties. Elsewhere, there was was plenty of fun fuzz that looked great dressed down with jeans, à la Chiara Ferragni. Step hems and embroidered detailing being key when it came to denim. Meanwhile, winter whites also proved popular with pristine white jeans and polos often being papped.
Elsewhere, there was plenty of layering. Think Vetements hoodies under tailored coats or dresses over jeans as worn by Tamu Mcpherson. Plus, Jan-Michael Quammie, fashion director of InStyle Germany played with proportions with ribbed wollen knits.
Polo-necks were also embraced, with many tucking their hair into oversized versions for a chic update like Taylor Tomassi Hill. And, bright colours added a welcome pop to an otherwise grey background. Tamara Kalinic went bold in amber while Aimee Song paired two of this season's hottest colours together via a peppery pink coat and a scarlett polo neck.
