InStyle: Tell us about the make-up look you're giving the models for the FELDER FELDER SS14 show?
Max Factor's Mel Arter: It's all about giving them a mermaid quality - they should like like they've just emerged from a tropical sea.
What was the inspiration behind it?
The collection is full of prints inspired by sea-life and shades of aquamarine, so the girls (FELDER FELDER designers, twin sisters Annette and Daniela Felder) wanted the models to appear as underwater creatures - mermaids- to bring to life the mysterious hidden depths of underwater life.
How did you achieve the look?
To create a wet-look glossy skin I'm using the brand new Max Factor Whipped Creme as a base. It was trialled at Valentino last season and officially launches today. It's similar to a mousse but with the texture of whipped cream. Over that we blend Masterpiece eyeshadows, all over the face, to give an amazing iridescent shimmer. On the eyes we blend two Wild Eye Pencils, which creates a real 3D effect, then finish off with Express Volume mascara. This doesn't actually go on sale until January but was so perfect for this look - it's a two-step mascara, with step one fattening the lashes and step two adding an ultra glossy coat - that we simply had to use it today.
And the nails?
Desert Sand is the shade we're using, plus two coats of top coat for extra gloss.
How does this differ from last season's wet look?
It is yet more gloss, but the texture of the gloss is changing. As technology improves we are getting glossing products that are more watery and much less sticky.
What is your trans-seasonal make-up bag must-have?
A tinted moisturiser. I wear Estée Lauder Daywear. I like that you can't tell i'm wearing it.
Which other shows are you looking forward to catching during LFW?
Meadham Kirchhoff, for the make-up. SS
