And so New York fashion week comes to a close. As I write this I'm jetting across the Atlantic with other fashion editors, photographers and models in time for London Fashion Week, which starts today. But before all that, what happened on the last day in the Big Apple?
One of the more comfortable shows of the week - I'm referring to the benches we were sitting on as well as the reassuringly warm collection of brown tweeds, rich velvets and luxe ruffles - it's the appearance of Ralph himself at the end of the show that we all really look forward to. Taking a leisurely stroll down the catwalk, smiling broadly and making eye contact with as many audience members as he possibly could, Mr Lauren’s most endearing feature wasn't his twinkly eyes, but the slightly dog-eared leather elbow patches on his jacket. How wonderful that a world class fashion designer doesn't feel the need to replace a perfectly good jacket.
Phew! This was one raunchy presentation, including slinky backless strappy dresses, heart locket chokers, lashings of black silk, and even a woman climaxing over the soundtrack. Blimey. That said, it was lovely and surprisingly wearable for such a sexy collection (there were sturdy coats too!), set off beautifully by the New York sunshine streaming through the huge windows. FROW attendees included CK girl Kendall Jenner (obvs), Abbey Lee Kershaw and the stunning Zoe Kravitz - who was refreshingly short in a front row of catwalk models.
You do overhear some funny things while you're waiting for shows to start. Here are a few of my favourites from this week in New York.
“Excuse me, are you sitting on my name?”
“Oh my god look at you head-to-toe in saffron!”
Girl 1: “you just bought some amazing sex??”
Girl 2: “SOCKS. I just bought some amazing SOCKS”
