Willow Smith's Chanel campaign?! BADASS. Here's everything you need to know about the rising star
Willow Smith is living the dream right now. Not only is she a quadruple-threat actor, singer, dancer and model, she just walked the Met Gala red carpet with her brother, Jaden, and looked INCREDIBLE. Wearing Chanel, the 15-year-old pulled no punches when it came to her fashion-forward look - this is how to do a theme.
Willow Smith has been around for years, but if you need a refresher on her famous family or musical history (yes, she’s behind THAT track), look no further…
Willow Smith is the daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, who gave birth to Willow Camille Reign Smith on October 31st, 2000. Halloween is a pretty cool birthday to have. Her older brother is Jaden Smith (who landed a Louis Vuitton campaign himself), and Trey Smith her older half-brother from Will’s previous marriage.
Willow made her acting debut alongside daddy Will in 2007’s I Am Legend, following it up with Kit Kittredge: An American Girl in 2008. We’ll forgive you if you don’t remember that one… Willow was all set to play Annie in the 2013 remake of the musical, but lost out because she was ‘too old’.
Remember Whip My Hair?! Yep, that was Willow, back in 2011. The song went platinum, and even got to #2 in the UK charts (as well as embedded in our brains). Willow then released a few more singles, but her promised debut album never materialised.
Those original songs have probably been scrapped (well, she was in her early-tweens), but Willow released her debut EP, 3, in 2014, with a new sound and image. In 2015, she dropped her first album Ardipithecus, and just released a lo-fi track with none other than Michael Cera - yes, really?! Listen to it below.
Speaking of style, Willow is definitely up there when it comes to giving us style inspo on the daily. Willow is all about distressed denim, ripped tees and #blackgirlmagic natural hair, even landing herself as the face of Stance socks.
Willow, Jaden and Trey are all ambassadors for Project Zambi, which helps Zambian children orphaned by AIDs. She’s also a vocal spokesperson for feminism and racial equality, as well as generally being a nice person.
Which brings us to Chanel. Following on from the likes of Lily Rose Depp and Kristen Stewart, who has repped the brand for years, Willow is actually the youngest ambassador to take on the job – remember, she’s still 15! Sitting FROW at Chanel’s AW16 show in Paris, we hope Willow’s look was a taste of what’s to come from Chanel. An electric blue cat-eye flick and wetsuit-esque ensemble? More of this, please. There’s no word yet on whether Willow will front a glossy campaign, or just continue to rock Chanel with that ‘00s cool-girl style she has, but we’re excited to find out.
