La Perla has removed a mannequin with visibly protruding ribs from one of its shop windows after an online outcry.
Eagle-eyed Twitter user Michael Rudoy spotted the mannequin in the brand's Soho store in New York, and posted a picture with the message 'How does #LaPerla think ribs on a mannequin is ok?!', looping in Seth Matlins, whose Twitter bio lists as her as an Adovcate for Truth-in-Advertising. From there, others also began to express their dissatisfaction with the image La Perla was portraying, and called for them to remove the mannequin.
The lingerie brand responded to the complaints quickly and has not only removed the offending mannequin, but has promised that it will never be seen again. 'The mannequin photographed has been removed from the store and will not be used again by any La Perla boutique,' a spokesperson said in a statement. La Perla has also stated that the matter is being investigated further.
It just goes to show that the customer does have a voice. And a strong one at that...
