Colour blocking may be the big story for spring/summer 2011 but it’s set to continue right through until winter as vibrant red shades took to the catwalk on day seven of New York Fashion Week.
Look out for scarlet gowns at the forthcoming Academy Awards courtesy of Marchesa, who unveiled an edited collection of the most beautiful red carpet gowns in a strict palette of ivory, black and red.
Michael Kors also issued a series of bold red maxi-dresses in his signature luxe sportswear style. We particularly loved his parachute-hemmed number with black halterneck.
Michelle Smith at Milly also saw red this season, delivering a more vibrant shade of poppy on double-breasted princess jackets layered over orange blouses.
This orange-red shade has been a constant on the NYC catwalks, from Carolina Herrera and Max Azria to Carlos Miele and Victoria Beckham Collection - and everyone in between.
