Spotted In Kings Cross: Could This 17-Year-Old Model Be The Next Cara D?

For their new spring summer 2017 campaign Topshop are championing new Nottingham face Lily-Jean Harvey...

When it comes to spotting who is going to be the next girl everyone has pinned on their style inspo board, you can always rely on Topshop to nail it. For previous campaigns they've casted Cara Delevingne, Stella Maxwell, Taylor Hill, Lottie Moss plus Gigi and Bella Hadid when they were all relatively new to modelling, transforming their names and faces from niche to mainstream in a flash of billboard images and viral video and Insta shots.

Joining the Topshop squad for 2017 is Lily-Jean Harvey, who fronts their spring summer campaign. You may not know her name right now but, trust us, by the end of the year, that's going to be a very different story. Kate Phelan, Topshop Creative Director, says, 'Finding an unknown girl to call our own is so exciting. Lily-Jean has star quality – she’s a real, natural beauty and a completely new face for a new season of fashion.'

Aged 17, the model was scouted while sitting on a swing outside London's King's Cross Station. Her first show was Topshop Unique last September and it seems the high street giant has always been a fave of hers: she recalled her first ever purchase of a red, white and blue striped dress and explained she loves that 'there’s something that fits every kind of girl'.

Shot in both London and LA, the series of images and short videos see Lily playfully pose and fool around, creating a fun and summery vibe: think star jumps, waving and casually kicking back on the beach. Interestingly the campaign also features some detail shots that are akin to what you might see scrolling through a blogger's Insta feed, cleverly appealing to their core customer who follows social media stars for sartorial advice.

The accompanying videos also feel very relatable, with Lily-Jean doing essentially what all 17-year-olds do at the weekend such as hanging out in an East End café and skating around the Southbank while, of course, showcasing the versatile and highly desirable spring-summer collection.
