It started with one man wearing a vintage Vivienne Westwood Mountain hat, now vertiginous headwear is all over the AW14 catwalk
Pharrell's vintage Vivienne Westwood hat has been the talk of many a conversation in the InStyle office these past few weeks – and it appears its influence has reached the catwalk.
While the singer has put his headwear on eBay – there's still two more days to get your bids in – that doesn't mean we've seen the last of the giant hat.
If recent fashion shows are anything to go by, hats are going to be big news for Autumn Winter 2014. And as the shows wear on, the hats just seem to be getting bigger and bigger.
It started at the Emporio Armani show in Milan last week, where we spied several oversized bowlers coming down the catwalk. The InStyle team discovered that the massive hats have a clever elasticated inside so that it stays on your head, and doesn't cover your eyes.
And while we thought they could easily rival Dame Viv's design, we had yet to see Gareth Pugh's show, which has taken headwear to new heights. Quite literally.
The British designer sent models down the catwalk wearing hats so tall, you'd definitely need to duck under doorways to keep one on. Elasicated inside or not.
So, Pharrell, it looks like the bar's just been raised when it comes to big hats. Are you game?
