How to shop like Cher

You'd be right in thinking Black Friday is an American thing which only made its way over onto British soil in the last few years. The pros? Bargains, bargains, bargains and the opportunity to buy that one thing that you've been wanting all season. Cons? It's CRAZY hectic.

2015 was calmer than the year before, with the majority of people - quite sensibly - avoiding shops in favour of online shopping. Hello, Cyber Monday!

So, What Is Black Friday And When Is Black Friday?

If you're a complete BF newbie, here's a bit of context; Black Friday is held annually the day after Thanksgiving in the US (so, 27th November 2015) and it's without a doubt the biggest shopping day of the year — thanks to the MASSIVE Black Friday deals that practically every store has on offer.

And What Is Cyber Monday?

Keeping up with the techy times, there is also a Cyber Monday (30th) where the same deals are online.

One weekend on which all the major stores discount their goods? Yep, believe it. Though it might be a fairly new concept in the UK, it's still set to be pretty bonkers as it overlaps with what is already one of the busiest shopping weekends in that stressful Christmas run-up. It happens every year... (Watch out for the news coverage of people fighting over TVs.)

Though traditionally the offers were only valid on the day, as the hype grows, stores and sites run their discounts for days either side of the weekend.

Sounds stressful? Yuh but fear not; we're here to make sure you get the most out of the discounts, with our guide on how to survive and thrive on Black Friday and Cyber Monday...

Our Shopping Tips For Nailing The Black Friday And Cyber Monday Sales?

1. Try To Work Out EXACTLY What You Want

When you're battling against thousands of other people, it pays to know exactly what you want to buy. Now that we've let you in on some of the brands taking part, you should definitely take a minute to check out what they've got that you actually want/need/can't live without.

Make a note of the product code and then, as soon as Friday hits, you can simply type it into the super-handy search and it'll take you right there; an on-the-spot decision is never a good idea so it pays to do your home work. If deciding on your final purchases early is too much to ask, at least have an idea of what you're after and stick to it.

Finding yourself searching perusing the perfumes and trying to work out what jasmine infused with sandalwood would smell like, when you were really looking for a Givenchy tote or a Self-Portrait dress for your Christmas party, will waste your time and will increase the chances of the item you actually want selling out.

2. Changed Your Mind? Know Your Return Rights

While most stores won't change their returns policy for the sake of the weekend, it makes sense to check it out before you buy so you're not stuck with loads of spur of the moment buys.

If you're not 100% clear, we advise asking or getting all of your items in your virtual basket then opening up a second window and taking a quick look at the policy; just in case.

3. Refresh Fingers At The Ready!

As the majority of us will be stuck at our desks when the action gets underway on Monday morning, you can bet that some websites will experience issues due to the influx of customers logging on at the same time (just imagine the Isabel Marant, Wang and Balmain H&M collaborations all in one go).

The spinning wheel of doom or that know-it-all egg-timer are guaranteed to make an appearance, and it's most likely you'll encounter items 'disappearing' from your shopping bag (how we LOATHE that). Speed is key, but sometimes there's only so much you can do. Just breathe and don't let the refresh button out of your sight...

Now that we've bestowed our manic Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping wisdom upon you, may the force be with you...
