Style Lessons We Have Learned From Coachella 2014

From green hair to giant nose rings, here are the style statements being made in the desert

As Coachella's first weekend comes to an end, here are some of the style ideas we may, or may not, be stealing from the celeb festival-goers...

1. Desert leather
Temperatures may be hitting somewhere in the region of 37 degrees in the Indio Desert, but that hasn't stopped festival-goers from donning their favourite leather jackets. Forget kaftans: the bikini cover-up at Coachella is the biker jacket, a la Poppy Delevingne, who was there on the second leg of her hen do.

2. Green hair
Wave goodbye to lilac hair, and say hello to the green barnet. And not just any hue of green, but the colour of slime (Katy Perry's words, not ours). Think Ghostbusters gunge and you're on the right track. Kylie Jenner and Katy Perry showcased their green dye jobs at Coachella, and we think we'll be seeing a lot more slimy heads this summer.

3. Sand storm accessorising
When you put a festival on in a desert, the question of what to wear in a sandstorm becomes a very real problem. The menfolk, including Jay Z (and Justin Bieber), mainly chose to wear caps, sunglasses and scarves to shield their pretty faces from airborne grains. And they looked kind of terrifying. Meanwhile, the women just got on with it.

4. Kendall Jenner's nose ring
Is that actually a nose ring, or a hoop earring? Either way, a lot of Instagram space has been given over to Kendall's giant silver ring. We just hope it doesn't get hooked on someone's tasselled leather jacket. Because that could hurt.

5. Elaborate headpieces
Emmy Rossum was flying the flag for the flower headpiece this year – she's been wearing a different one every day it seems. If you're thinking of recreating this look for the festival season, forget the dainty daisy chain, and go for a full on flower crown instead.

6. Hippy-turned-goth
Black lace might not seem the most desert-appropriate wear, especially at a festival which was once upon a time all about the Aztec-print smock and gladiator sandals. This year however, the hippy had appears to have gone into mourning. And we love it.
