Stephen Jones is the latest designer to delve deep into the world of Barbie, as he gives the iconic doll a makeover for Christmas.
'The inspiration behind the looks is traditional Christmas symbolism such as holly, reindeer, and snow,' says Stephen as he cites his favourite outfit as the Holly Surprise design: 'very Barbie and the robin on her head is so cute.'
Talking in detail about the unlikely, but brilliant, collaboration, he adds: 'The fabrics have to have a lot of thought for example velvet on a human being looks luxurious, but on a Barbie it looks like fake fur.
‘Barbie is the most fabulous private client. She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits! Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future.’
As well as Holly Surprise Barbie, the new dolls include Toffee Ice Barbie, Santa Baby Barbie, Snowglobes Barbie and Christmas Treet Barbie - whose headpiece lights up with battery power.
No shortage of designer wares, Barbie adds the Stephen Jones designs to her bulging wardrobe of Burberry, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Prada.
The new dolls cost £250 each and launch at the Selfridges London’s Toy Shop on Friday 15 November.
