It wasn’t just Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah who took home gold from last year’s Olympics: Stella McCartney was a big winner too. As the official designer of Team GB, Stella was tasked with creating some 500 kits for Britain’s finest athletes. And it looks like all that hard graft translated into sales, as Stella McCartney Ltd rose 25 per cent to £25.7 million last year.
As well as the huge exposure afforded to the brand from the Olympics, Stella was also named on the Queen’s Honours List and was awarded both Designer Brand and Designer of the Year at the 2012 British Fashion Awards. All of these accolades went into helping profits soar, allowing Stella (as owner of half the company) to take home a paycheck of £1.5m.
That doesn’t mean Stella is about to rest on her laurels. The designer staged an elaborate presentation at London Fashion Week in September to showcase her latest designs for Adidas, while Cara Delevingne took to the Paris catwalk to model Stella’s SS14 mainline collection.
We’re sure her fortunes will continue to rise…
