Model and style maven Mary Charteris knows the stellar power of star prints
When we’re on the hunt for a major print fix, we all tend to go for the usual motif suspects of pretty florals and sexy leopard and, while we’re definitely not swearing off of them for good, we’re in desperate need of a print shake-up.
So, imagine our delight when we spotted the latest print trend to hit the high street and designer circuits alike. Yep: we’re talking about out of this world star prints.
Kick-started by Brit designer Stella McCartney for AW14 they’ve since gone, err, stellar and now, thanks to Tommy Hilfiger’s throwback Sixties inspired collection, they’re set to be one of the biggest trends of SS15 too. In short, you’ll definitely want to get in on the starry action before the rest of the fash pack.
A word of caution: stars are kitsch enough on their own, so you'll want to consider keeping the rest of your ensemble ultra-sleek and paired back to avoid looking too sweet. Try rocking a star emblazoned jumper with a minimal leather skirt or go all out on the retro feel by tucking a sheer printed blouse into high-waist trousers. Trust us; they may be small but these stars pack a big style hit without having to go OTT elsewhere.
To save you HOURS of trolling through site after site, we’ve whittled down the key star motif buys that are guaranteed to make your wardrobe a way more fun place to be. And just in time for the party season, no less.
Woollen Jumper, £525, J.W. Anderson at Harvey Nichols
This super cool take on the star print trend is the ideal way of channelling the look without going all out. We'll be rocking this with boyfriend jeans and chunky brogues for an off-duty spin.
Platform Heels, £120, KG Kurt Geiger at Asos
Give any going-out look a whole new spin thanks to these star-motif heels. Now that's what we call statement...
Printed Blouse, £29.99, Zara
Don't be afraid to clash your prints either; we recommend rocking this loose-fitting blouse with a striped midi skirt for extra wow. Stick to the blue and white colour palette and you can't go wrong.
Star Clutch, £450, Stella McCartney at Net-A-Porter
Take on the trend with the clutch that started it all; Stella's cut-out, faux leather pouch. Instantly recognisable and can reinvent any ensemble? This is definitely a cost-per-wear classic.
Printed Swing Dress, £34.99, Mango
Just think how cute this printed frock will look with a crisp white shirt underneath. Yep, we're completely sold too.
Silver-Plated Earrings, £15, Whistles
Ok, so these aren't technically a print but these star earrings are too sweet to ignore (and ideal for tapping into the off-beat trend at work).
