With a nod to old Hollywood glamour of the 50s and 60s, Louis Vuitton’s new A/W 2010 collection will make the Grace Kelly dress-a-likes out there drool with desire. The new campaign, shot by Steven Meisel in New York, packs a punch, transporting us back to a world of cocktails and cigars, Alfred Hitchcock and taffeta.
In a backstage setting, supermodels Christy Turlingon, Karen Elson and Natalia Vodianova, drape themselves over desks and chairs, their skin glowing (courtesy of make-up artist Pat McGrath) and waists cinched in. Their chests are enhanced and each dress adheres to the time they were inspired by (with a 2010 twist, of course), sitting below the knee. The chocolate browns and sepia tones of the clothes are rich and delicious, the handbags placed in open boxes too gorgeous to resist.
‘Last season was all about the idea of the New Age Traveller,’ Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs said. ‘This season was a manifesto for beautiful, ladylike clothes. Two different collections, two different campaigns. But one Louis Vuitton.’
The full range of images of the A/W 2010 collection will be coming out in August. Whether you’re a 'Country Girl' or in 'High Society', this campaign has given us all our very own couture time machine and we are very grateful indeed.
