Iconic department store Saks Fifth Avenue is to stock plus-sized designer clothing for the first time!

The move comes hot on the heels of Britain's equalities minister Lynne Featherstone’s announcement that Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, left, in Dolce & Gabbana, has the figure women should aspire to.

Previously, luxury labels at Saks like Chanel, Roberto Cavalli and YSL were only sold up to a US size 10 (UK 14), but will now be stocked up to US size 14 (UK 18), with a few select pieces available in US sizes 16-20.

Size is a debate that’s dogged fashion for some time, so it’s great to see big-name brands and a classic shopping icon embrace changing bodies. Other luxe labels involved in the revolutionary move include Valentino, Oscar de la Renta and Alexander McQueen.

Fingers crossed London department stores follow suit – and why not, with Brit designers like Mark Fast rocking size 14 models on the catwalk and high-street brands like Evans embracing role models like Beth Ditto.
