As well as singer, model, sportswear collaborator, maaan eader and Instagram pisser-offer, Riri has now added shoe designer to her eclectic CV.
Collaborating with Carrie Bradshaw fav Manolo Blahnik, Rihanna has created six designs — and they’re so Riri... They’re DENIM.
The shoes are varying levels of unwearability (unless you’re Rihanna or have her levels of pure sass) – from a pretty little sequin slingback and crystal sandals (in the Chaos style – an old RiRi favourite) to a full-on bonkers high-leg boot.
The 9-to-5 boots, which are Rihanna’s favourite of the bunch, were so expensive to make, there’s only going to be 45 pairs.
This might explain her excitement at the prospect of seeing someone in them, in spite of her collabs with Puma and River Island. The singer said: ‘The day I see a woman in the street wearing my shoes...I am sorry for that woman, because I’m going to literally run after her, shouting, ‘Stop! Selfie! Who are you? Where did you get them?’ […] I’m going to have a moment!’
We think we might do the same, except say: ‘Stop! Selfie! Tell me the secret to having $3,995 to spend on a pair of denim boots and the confidence to wear them.’
The collection was inspired by Rihanna’s own hand tattoos, with the designs featuring on the back of the boots and the sandals.
The inkings caused mild controversy when they were first done back in 2009 — firstly, traditionalists took against the Maoiri designs, then against Rihanna flying her American tattooists to meet her in the Domican Republic to make them 'pretty'.
We predict a Rihanna x Manolo Blahnik riot so you better be ready on the 5th May when they launch in stores, with between £540-2,460 to spend.
