Shockwaves are currently rippling through the fashion industry this morning as the world wakes up to the surprising news that Raf Simons, the man that revolutionised the face of Dior following the expulsion of John Galliano in 2011, has stepped down from his position as creative director - ending their three-and-a-half-year collaboration.

Famed for breathing new life into the Parisian label, leading it in an entirely new and  modern direction, the 47-year-old designer is said to have reached this decision for “personal reasons” and that the Spring Summer 2016 collection which he presented under the flower-festooned hillock in a courtyard of the Louvre in October this year was indeed his last.

While the rumour mill goes into overdrive about who will be named as his successor, both Dior and Raf Simons have described their separation as amicable on both sides after the designer and the company failed to reach an agreement on a new employment contract.

“It is after careful and long consideration that I have decided to leave my position as creative director of Christian Dior’s women’s collection,” Simons explained in a statement. ““It is a decision based entirely and equally on my desire to focus on other interests in my life, including my own brand, and the passions that drive me outside my work. Christian Dior is an extraordinary company, and it has been an immense privilege to write a few pages of this magnificent book.”

This is the second surprise designer exit at Dior in recent years, and it has been indicated that we might not know Raf’s next move for some time as he may be restrained from joining another fashion house immediately due to a non-compete clause in his initial contract.

On the plus side, the possibility of Raf launching his own label does soften the blow slightly. So while the future awaits to be unfolded, let’s look back at some of our favorite Dior red carpet fashion moments under the leadership that was Raf Simons.
