Take a sneak peek at Miuccia Prada's glittering costumes for Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is set to be the most stylish release of 2013, thanks to its flapper fabulous theme, seriously cool cast, and not forgetting, a helping hand from designer du jour, Muiccia Prada.

The Miu Miu and Prada fashion designer has collaborated with Gatsby costume designer, and Luhrmann's wife, Catherine Martin, to create a bespoke collection of over 40 unique cocktail and evening dresses for Carey Mulligan and her co-stars. The dressed have been inspired by Miuccia's runway looks from the last 20 years.

Luhrmann has a long-standing friendship with the Italian fashion designer, having worked with her on the Romeo & Juliet wardrobe and directing the short films that punctuated the Met Museum's Miuccia Prada/Elsa Schiaparelli exhibit. So, it's no wonder she's involved in his latest release.

Catherine says of the collaboration: “Baz and Miuccia have always connected on their shared fascination with finding modern ways of releasing classic and historical references from the shackles of the past."

And explains of the look: "The fashions of the time saw the development of a dichotomy between those who aspired to the privileged, Ivy League look of wealthy Long Island and those who were aspiring to European glamour, sophistication and decadence. Our collaborations with Prada reflect the collision of these two aesthetics.”

As well as the glorious gowns we've already seen Carey wearing in promotional snaps for the film, Prada have now unveiled sketches of a drop-dead multi-striped sequins dress, Radzmire dress with embroidered bustier and an orange organza fish scale dress which will feature in the film.

Add to that Tiffany & Co's glittering jewels and dapper suits for Mr Gatsby himself, aka Leonardo DiCaprio, by Brooks Brothers, and we're in store for Luhrmann's most sartorially accomplished film to date.
