As we've already seen from his collaborations with Comme des Garcons and Uniqlo, if Pharrell Williams is going to partner with a brand, it's going to be one of the coolest. So we're totally not surprised that Adidas Originals – who has also just collaborated with Topshop – has announced that it is entering into a long term partnership with the Happy singer.
We should have guessed when Pharrell stepped out in his customised Stan Smiths – the trainer of choice for the discerning fashionista – that this was on the cards.
The singer and Adidas are to release a debut collection this summer, which will be created using Pharrell's eco-friendly Bionic Yarn. Yep, Mr Williams also owns a company which creates fabric using plastic debris from the sea. Seriously, is there nothing Pharrell can't do?
'Working with an iconic brand like Adidas is such an incredible opportunity,' said Williams in a statement. 'From the classic track suit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, Adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless. This is an exciting partnership for both me and for Bionic Yarn.'
'I am truly thrilled to work with Pharrell,' said Dirk Schoenberger, Adidas sport style division global creative director. 'He is a pop-culture icon who never fails to inspire, not just through his musical talent and craft, but through his many other interests. He is the perfect fit for the multi-faceted company that is Adidas.'
We can't wait to see what the two have created...
