The hottest ticket of the season, Raf Simons presented his first ready to wear collection for Christian Dior! Get the latest on the show and Isabel Marant from our Fashion Features Editor Victoria Moss...
The first of the ones that we've ALL been waiting for. As we walked up to the giant white box structure which had been erected right ourside the Hotel National des Invalides (a little bit LA, noted our Editor Eilidh MacAskill) it struck me that we had NO idea what to expect. Inside the seating blocks were separated into colours - jeune, bleu, rose - each clearly denoted by the swathes of coloured fabric hanging from the walls around each. And then it came... to the sounds of a vibrant drum and bass beat, Raf Simons made his scorching Dior debut. Whilst his beautiful Haute Couture collection earlier this summer was the direct fashion love child of his previous Jil Sander collections and the original New Look, for ready to wear, he created something entirely new.
First came the suiting references, sharp shouldered double breasted grey jackets worn as mini dresses, then came the vibrant shots of colour. Angular draped strapless tops in bright pinks and reds, jewel encrusted cocktail dresses shrouded in light black tulle, quality street metallic colour blocking on tops, striking pink and black matellot striped shifts. Look after look of a thoroughly fresh and new vision for this house. Raf Simons took his bow to a cheering, standing, adoring crowd. Hedi Slimane - you're up next.
Meanwhile if the Isabel Marant show revealed anything, it's that Ms M knows exactly who her customer is - and isn't going to be upsetting them anytime soon. In this version of her Americana vision, we were taken to an aloha with Elvis. Black and white Hawaiian print knotted shirts and flirty mini skirts, and fun short playsuits - this show was all about the legs - long, tanned and out there. She followed on with some massively squeal worthy swimwear - strapless fifties one pieces with darling ruffle details - but way more cool girl than prissy princess. Then to the sound of Mr Presley's dulcet tones she cracked out the rhinestones - white leather mini dresses studded with multi-colour sparkles, white flare jeans and sheer crystal embellished tops worn nonchalantly with her signature red studded leather cropped pants. And your new shoe crush? Check out her mid-heel brown leather gladiators.
