Paris Couture Week Spring 2013 closed with a bang, as the latest dreamy gowns from Elie Saab and Valentino went on show, while Dita Von Teese hit the front row and Jean Paul Gaultier hid a gaggle of little girls underneath one of his billowing ball gowns…
Elie Saab kicked things off with a fashion collection that was pared-down in palette but far from it in terms of structure and detail. Classic column gowns complete with intricate floral lace were interspersed with frocks in the season's signature midi length. Cape and bustier detailing also gave the gowns a new season edge.
Onto Jean Paul Gaultier and there was a riot of patterns and prints on offer, as the fashion designer took us on a Moroccan adventure. The collection was a holiday wardrobe of dream proportions, boasting striped tulle dresses, bustle skirts, harem pants, and slinky kaftans all in rich jewel colours and topped with extravagant updos and chandelier earrings. For his trademark dramatic finale, Jean Paul had a model take to the runway in a fairytale bridal gown, out from which rushed four little girls dressed in neon – catwalk queens in the making, we're sure!
Bringing an ethereal yet modern collection to the table, Valentino closed couture week on a high. As ever, a palette of bright white, scarlet, nude and midnight-blue prevailed. Silhouettes were girlie, featuring nipped-in waists and choir girl style collars. Cage-style piping defined some of the early dresses, while an all-over tapestry print dress worn by Cara Delevingne proved the stand-out piece of the fashion collection.
A glorious end to a stunning set of haute couture fashion shows! No doubt many of these beauties will make it onto the Oscars red carpet.
