Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli at the Oscars
Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford at the Oscars
With nudes and pastels making a mark on the Golden Globes red carpet, for the Oscars 2012, dresses came in stronger, basic shades to rule on cinema’s most important night.
Red proved to be a bold and popular choice, with last year’s Best Actress winner, Natalie Portman, leading the way in her vintage Dior frock. Emma Stone also opted for high drama in a crimson beribboned dress that was reminiscent of Nicole Kidman’s Balenciaga back in 2007. Livia Firth, wife of Colin, also chose red, standing by her man in a taffeta dress. And although she described her dress as coral, Michelle Williams’ Louis Vuitton number still had the show-stopping properties of a red number.
Having been a major trend at the Globes, white continued its moment in the spotlight, with Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford, Shailene Woodley and Rooney Mara in Givenchy representing the sleek side of the spectrum and Jennifer Lopez (who better?) glitzing it up in Zuhair Murad.
Black always looks chic on the red carpet and this year’s fans included a striking Angelina Jolie in a slit-to-the-thigh Atelier Versace dress and Rose Byrne bringing some old fashioned glamour with her sequined Elie Saab.
We can’t decide which we love more!
