Monochrome may have been this season's trend du jour, but at this year's Academy Awards the stars have taken a traditional route to red carpet dressing, with everyone from Kristen Stewart to Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams and Amanda Seyfried opting for ethereal floor-sweeping gowns.
One of the first to hit the red carpet was Amy Adams in a wow-worthy Oscar de la Renta gown with frothy tiered tulle train. Continuing the trend, Jennifer Lawrence arrived representing Christian Dior Couture in a show-stopping full skirted jacquard bandeau dress in a soft shade of dove-grey.
Also in Dior Couture was Charlize Theron, rocking her super-short crop with a sleek, bright white peplum detail gown.
Representing British design was Amanda Seyfried in an ivory applique Alexander McQueen gown complete with halter neck and cut-out detail.
Zoe Saldana also wowed in white, racking up some serious style points in a waist-cinching Alexis Mabille gown with layered grey scale hem.
One of the last to hit the red carpet and cementing the trend for all dresses light and lovely was Twilight star and presenter for the night, Kristen Stewart, who rocked a gorgeous Reem Acra number.
