Hollywood's brightest stars worked some of fashion's hottest trends at last night's 83rd Academy Awards. From lace and sequins to hues on the opposite ends of the colour spectrum, this was a fashion-forward crowd showcasing some serious designer gowns.
WATCH THE DRESSES IN ACTION
All eyes were on hostess Anne Hathaway, who presented the Oscars with James Franco, so only a stand-out gown would do. When going for red, one can only do a Valentino (if you live in Hollywood, that is) and Anne led the parade of bright, bold dresses. Hot on her heels were Jennifer Lawrence in her curve-hugging dress by Calvin Klein Collection, new mum Penelope Cruz in a cleavage revealing red sequinned dress and Sandra Bullock, who stood out in her red gown and matching crimson lippy. Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson worked a darker red (scarlet, to be precise) with her lacy column by Dolce & Gabbana, and Natalie Portman opted for a plum off-the-shoulder Rodarte. And no body could miss a svelte Jennifer Hudson in her mega-watt orange frock by Versace.
Other ladies doing lace included Mila Kunis (in Elie Saab) and Cate Blanchett (in Givenchy Couture), both of whom wore lavender and both of whom had a smattering of the delicate material worked onto their gowns.
On the opposite end of the bright spectrum were many a nude: Nicole Kidman in ivory Christian Dior, Gwyneth Paltrow in silver Calvin Klein, Michelle Williams in silver Chanel, Mandy Moore in a sequinned Monique Lhuillier, Hilary Swank in silver Gucci... the list goes on and on!
These Hollywood dolls certainly know how to put on a good show.
