Day 7 of New York Fashion Week and the style set had everything to chat about: Would Victoria Beckham’s diffusion line, Victoria, Victoria Beckham, get the rave reviews that her mainline received on Sunday? Which Jenny Packham gown would Kate Middleton be most likely to wear? And will the hand of John Galliano be detectable in the Oscar de la Renta fashion collection?
In a move away from the girly attitude the diffusion line has encompassed in past seasons, Mrs Beckham aligned the Victoria, Victoria Beckham collection more with the utilitarian style of her mainline in providing easy-to-wear, directional pieces. What appeared to be layered separates were often one piece that provided a zip-up-and-go mindset that was very much appreciated by the front row.

Employing a whole host of iridescent fabrics, blooming prints and elaborate beading, Vera Wang’s Autumn Winter 2013 offering is set to be a favourite for the party season with cocktail frocks and eveningwear aplenty. Jenny Packham, meanwhile, skipped daywear altogether and instead sent scores of stunning gowns and embellished dress coats fit for a princess down the runway.
The Rodarte sisters pulled in the crowds, and all of the top models, with a grungier aesthetic, complete with tie-dye silks, lacquered leathers and eyes lined with plenty of kohl. And the Oscar de la Renta girl was a little less prim, too. Fit-and-flare frocks were met with acid green gowns, knot-belted jackets and sheer, trailing capes that had the front row whispering: “John Galliano?”
But onto the next and Narciso Rodriguez was the ultimate antidote to a day of speculation and questions. Clean lines, figure-flattering shapes and bursts of brilliant colour: stunning.
The penultimate day of New York fashion shows sees Michael Kors, J. Mendel, Marchesa and Proenza Schouler among the highlights so stay tuned to InStyle.co.uk for all the latest news and pictures.
