Ushering in the end of nine days packed full of fashion spectacles in the Big Apple, presentations from industry heavyweights Ralph Lauren Collection, Calvin Klein Collection and Marc Jacobs provided the ultimate New York Fashion Week grand finale.
Giving style mavens a spring in their step first thing on the final day, Ralph Lauren put a nautical spin on proceedings with models sporting sailor caps, roll neck jumpers and toggle-fastened fisherman coats before docking ship in a foreign land flavoured with Russian influences. Pussy bow blouses, embroidered waistcoats and fabulous furs gave way to tiered ball gowns topped with Cossack hats.
Also taking a Russian starting point, inspired by the film Ivan’s Childhood, Francisco Costa’s Autumn Winter 2013 offering for Calvin Klein Collection packed a powerful punch. Coats featured bold shoulders and oversized lapels cinched in with the collection staple, a waist belt.
And as if to declare that the Marc Jacobs collection really is better late than never, after Storm Nemo caused delivery delays, the iconic designer had the fashion world in his hands as models stormed out in sparkling tweeds, high-waisted ‘50s-style briefs and pyjama suits, underneath a giant sun. While the sunshine left front rowers Sofia Coppola, Jessica Stam and Debbie Harry questioning colours initially, a lift in the lighting and a second lap of the catwalk brought each outfit to life.
So as A-listers, editors and fashion followers jet across the Atlantic, London is prepped and ready. Stay tuned to InStyle.co.uk for all the latest from London Fashion Week.
