Barbie's new adjustable ankles mean she can finally wear flats
Barbie is certainly making headlines in the style stakes with her new image. Pat McGrath, internationally renowned makeup artist, has not only been backstage with her beauty brushes during Paris Fashion Week, she's also been busy giving Barbie an edgy, modern makeover - and we've got the pictures to prove it.
Gone are Barbie's usual pretty pinks, and in their place, bold blue eyes, dramatic feline flicks and glam, glittery jewels.
This isn't the first time Barbie's 's been given a bang up-to-date makeover, either.
2015 saw Miss Plastic Fantastic finally able to throw off her high heels and rest her poor feet in some flats, after 56 long and painful years. That’s right, we said flat shoes. Barbie. In. Flats.
Thanks to some newly adjustable ankles (bringing a whole new meaning to the term plastic surgery…) Barbie was finally able to trot around in trainers, brogues and loafers, tap into the sixties trend for pointed flats or rock a moccasin. While nobody has a better shoe collection, we thought it was high time Barbie added some flats to her wardrobe. We especially loved the high-leg gladiator sandals she was seen rocking this spring.
Flat shoes have always been a hot topic, and especially so, after the Cannes Film Festival banned flat shoes from the red carpet, many women responded with #showmeyourflats, a viral social media campaign that urged women to be proud of their heel-less shoes. Maybe Barbie was inspired by the outpouring of support for the humble flat and decided to change her ways, or maybe Ken was feeling a bit insecure about his taller girlfriend. Either way, we love how she's carried off the new look.
As Marilyn Monroe once said, give a woman the right shoes and she can run the world.
