Fashionable travellers in Edinburgh can now rest their weary heads in the terribly cool surroundings of the first ever Missoni Hotel.
Designed by Missoni co-founder Rosita Missoni, the eponymous hotel combines the luxury of the label's homeware with Italian hospitality. Expect friendly service in an immaculate interior; the bold, monochrome décor is punctuated with brilliant flashes of colour and those distinctive Missoni prints. There's furniture by some of Rosita's favourite designers including Arne Jacobson, Marcel Wandes and Hans J Wegner's iconic Wishbone Chair which Rosita has in her own home.
It's really the details that make the Missoni hotel a must-visit. Specially designed toiletries scented with Missoni fragrance; a complimentary 'healthy minibar' (perfect for the calorie conscious fashion girl) and an Espresso machine in every room.
Food being at the centre of the Italian way of life, the kitchen or cucina is also at the heart of the hotel. The mouth-watering menu will feature seasonal authentic Italian eats such as Barolo and Castelmagno cheese risotto and roast rabbit served with polenta and radicchio. Even the hotel bar was inspired by Italian customs, this time the tradition of the 'passeggiata'... It's an exclusive cocktail lounge with capacity for fifty people that will be Edinburgh's place to see and be seen.
But it's not all Italian; the Scottish setting offers its own design quirks; waiters in Missoni print kilts, Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Ladderback Chair and a sprig of heather on your pillow at night. This sounds like a cultural match made in heaven...
