Fashion designer and illustrator Alexsandro Palombo, whose cult knitwear line has graced the likes of Sheryl Crow, is set to stir up an haute couture storm with his new book, a fashion graphic novel described as “style, humour, chic” by its creator.
A sort of whimsical combination of Roald Dahl, surrealism and Fashion Week, the illustrated tale Vanitas, Inshallah features illustrated cameos from stars such as Michelle Obama, Marilyn Monroe, Queen Elizabeth II, Coco Chanel, Kate Moss and Karl Lagerfeld.
The story follows a clown named Vanitas leading the reader through fashion dreams and memories, culminating in “the world’s first illustrated fashion show”, showcasing pieces from Alexsandro Palombo’s new collection.
Says the designer, “It is only through dreams and imagination that I have been able to capture and invent life my way”.
Like the best sort of more-obscurely-fashionable-than-a-Hoxton-hipster publications, Vanitas, Inshallah is only available, in a those-in-the-know fashion, from Hazard Edizioni for 20 euros.
