Meet The Power Stylists Behind The Met Ball's Best-Dressed

Meet The Power Stylists Behind The Met Ball's Best-Dressed
Rex

They’re Hollywood’s most influential red carpet tastemakers. Here we give you the inside scoop on the power stylists creating and making the best-dressed looks

These are three of the women making the major decisions in Hollywood, like which Christian Louboutin shoe goes with which Prada dress? Or which Miu Miu bag to opt for?

Petra Flannery

Who she is?
Based in LA (natch), Flannery has become the go-to stylist for Hollywood’s up-and-coming stars who want to make a bold impact on the red carpet.

Why she matters?
She’s credited with putting Zoe Saladana on the fashion map after styling her in Givenchy Haute Couture for the 2010 Oscars. And remember Emma Stone in those Chanel separates at this year’s Golden Globes? Yep, Flannery was behind that look too. Plus, she’s also worked with Mila Kunis, Megan Fox, Selma Hayek and Amy Adams.

Hire or fire?
Sigh, if only every Hollywood actress could be styled by Flannery. Stone wowed in a cerise pink two-piece from Thakoon whilst Amy Adams shimmered down the red carpet in Oscar de la Renta, and Claire Danes looked the epitome of ladylike in Oscar de la Renta too.

Micaela Erlanger

Who she is?
After graduating from New York City’s Parsons University, Erlanger assisted the late fashion journalist Annabel Tollman for six years. A couple of years later she met Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery, who introduced her to the then unknown actress, Lupita Nyong’o. Lupita asked Erlanger to dress her for the Toronto Film Festival, and they’ve been besties ever since.

Why she matters?
Er, she styles Lupita Nyong’o. What more is there to say?

Hire or fire?
Here at InStyle HQ we’re major fans of Lupita, but this flapper-inspired look has definitely caused some division amongst the team. While we appreciate her not playing it safe like many others we’re a bit overwhelmed by it all. Individually we love each piece but together it’s a bit OTT. Even her toe nail polish matches her bag.

Leslie Fremar

Who she is?
Born and raised in Toronto, Fremar moved to NY to assist Anna Wintour at Vogue. She’s even rumoured to be the inspiration behind the number one assistant in The Devil Wears Prada. Later she worked at Prada in VIP relations where she was introduced to Salma Hayek who asked her to dress her for the Cannes Film Festival. She’s been styling A-listers ever since.

Why she matters?
She was the first stylist to get her hands on Raf Simons debut collection for Dior Couture, which she styled Marion Cotillard in. Plus remember Julianne Moore in that canary yellow long- sleeved Dior Couture top and full circle-skirt at the Emmy Awards? Fremar was behind that look, too.

Hire or fire?
Forget Sean Penn, all eyes were definitely on Charlize Theron as she strolled down the red carpet in baby pink Dior. Whilst Fremar opted to buck the full-length trend by styling Marion Cotillard in a midi length Dior number. Bravo.
