When you pass Jennifer Connelly in the lobby, spot Miranda Kerr at the bar and bump into Nicole Kidman en route to the bathroom, you know you're at the hottest party in town.

Presented by Louis Vuitton, last night saw the crème de la crème of Hollywood descend on LA's Beverley Wilshire Hotel to celebrate the launch of the partnership between the fashion house and UNICEF.

Aiming to support the most vulnerable children around the world, Louis Vuitton has created a silver Lockit bracelet and pendant, and is asking everyone to #makeapromise by linking their pinkie fingers with the Lockit in sight and sharing on social media.

To kickstart the online campaign, celebrity friends of the fashion house gathered to make their pinkie promises, which were captured by the legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier. Here's eight things that we loved from last night...

1. Lighting issues with Selena Gomez....
The InStyle UK cover star told us that the secret to a good selfie comes down to two things: "good lighting and the angle of the face." Demonstrating, she took our phone to take a pic but struggled to overcome the weird blue stage lighting that made us look like smurfs. "This is exactly what I'm talking about", she exclaimed.Thankfully there's always the black and white filter right?

2. Elton John taking the p**s out of David Beckham...
Who knew the musical legend could be so witty? Presenting David with the UNICEF Humanitarian Leadership Award, Elton recapped on David's career ranging from footballer to underwear model, but it was all very tongue in cheek. Recalling his debut cologne "Instinct", Elton joked that he always wears it "when he wants to feel sporty."

3. Mariah Carey being, well, Mariah Carey...
All long blonde hair, low cut dress and dripping in diamonds, Mariah took to the stage to perform a trio of hit songs. With a gold microphone and wind machine, it was the diva at her best. Her secret to hitting those high notes? "I don't drink champagne. Just some hot water with manuka honey," she explained as she grabbed a cup mid set.

4. David Beckham getting everyone emotional...
Recalling the incrediblly moving stories he has witnessed first hand in his role as a UNICEF ambassador, David had everyone in the room in tears as he compared how different the lives of his own four children are to those that he has met on his travels around the world. From the devastating typhoon in the Philippines to disease epidemics in South Africa, David explained he would not stop his UNICEF ambassador role until the injustice against children stopped.

5. Lionel Richie being the most patient celebrity ever...
With a line literally queuing around the banquet hall to grab a selfie with the Hello star, Lionel was the epitome of how to be a celebrity pro. With a genuine kind word for everyone, he didn't even frown when a loud girl cut ahead to ask him "Hello, is it me you're looking for?"  His answer - "no but maybe try back next time."

6. Miranda Kerr NOT eating clean...
Yep, with a dessert featuring miniature fruit crumbles and gooey chocolate puddings, we were super impressed to witness the former Victoria's Secret model actually indulging in both. Her secret? "I don't believe in deprivation. I'm all about the 80/20 percent rule." Well, if it's good enough for Miranda...!

7. Jennifer Connelly's getting ready playlist...
The Labyrinth star paid tribute to the musical legend and her former co-star David Bowie as she prepped for tonight's event by choosing his greatest as her getting ready album. "It's really difficult to choose a favourite song but tonight it was all about Ziggy Stardust and then the Blackstar album."

8. Nicole Kidman's handbag essentials...
Sounding more suburban mum than Hollywood starlet, Nicole told us the top three things she carries on a night out; "My phone so I can call my kids and make sure they're going to bed on time. Breath mints. And my credit card just in case."
