A model on the Anya Hindmarch AW14 catwalk
1. Be inspired by Bacofoil
Perhaps excited at the prospect of the recently announced Mars One Big Brother-style show to pick candidates to live on the red planet, designers at London Fashion Week went all space-age on Tuesday. Crisp silver foil fabric made an appearance at Simone Rocha (styled with a furry top) and Ashley Williams (on dungarees and bonnets). Just don’t stand too close to the microwave.
2. Oh, Anya! We love you
Anya Hindmarch’s fashion week presentations are known for their humour, and this season’s was the best one yet. How nice to see the fashion pack laughing for all the RIGHT reasons. Models and male dancers traversed moving walkways with shopping trolleys and baskets, double basses were played by hands with no body and hands waved from the floor at the end of the show. Oh, and the bags? Take your pick from a whole host of grocery chic: Daz, Cornflakes and McVities Digestive biscuits all made an appearance, but it was the Tony the Tiger Frosties bag everyone was lusting after.
3. Flats get furry
Barely a show passed in London that didn’t feature flats; Tuesday’s were fluffy, a little like inside-out UGGs. Sheepskin was the name of the game at Marques’Almeida, with bright pink and blue lace-ups as well as dazzling white, while Osman collaborated with Manolo Blahnik for his gorgeous dappled desert boots.
4. Petite models klaxon!
Models are very tall. Some of the InStyle fashion team are not very tall. So we were delighted to see models under 5’8” on the catwalk at Meadham Kirchoff. And forget all that nonsense about the clothes “not hanging well” unless you have the height: these girls looked great.
5. An early night
Because we’re off to Milan!! Watch this space for daily updates from the Italian fashion capital.
